Gamma Oryzanol
A.P. Organics Ltd. has recently commercialized the technology developed by CSIR-IICT, Hyderabad, to produce Gamma-Oryzanol from rice bran oil. Oryzanol is isolated from the rice bran oil soap-stock (by-product of chemical refining process of rice bran oil) employing a process with a combination of solvent fractionations.
The project has been partially funded by Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), Government of India. The plant for the production of gamma-oryzanol is fully operational now. It has the capacity to produce 100 kg/day (to be expanded to 400 kg/day shortly) of gamma-oryzanol meeting international standards of purity and safety.
Gamma-oryzanol is being sold in the international markets at very high prices but the gamma-oryzanol produced using the technical know-how supplied by CSIR-IICT, Hyderabad to A.P. Organics Ltd. is very cost effective.
